Resveratrol – recent discoveries in pancreatic cancer research

Resveratrol, a phenolic antioxidant with anti-ageing effects and properties in cancer therapy

Resveratrol (RSV) is a bioactive small molecule known to have antioxidant properties. RSV is a SIRT1 activator and ameliorates ageing-related phenotypes through cAMP phosphodiesterase inhibition.

Yang et al. have recently published  a paper in the Journal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology about the potential benefits of the Resveratrol (RSV) in pancreatic cancer therapy (1). In this article, the authors highlighted the dual role of RSV in pancreatic cancer cells (Bax mediated cancer suppressor vs. VEGF-B-mediated cancer activator ). They finally suggested that the combination of RSV with a therapeutic inhibitor of VEGF-B could be promising for clinical pancreatic therapy.
