Ppc-1 is a novel small molecule derived from cellular slime mould. In this post, I’d like to introduce the characteristics of this compound for your in vitro mitochondrial research.
Ppc-1 has been described to enhance oxygen consumption in a dose-dependent manner. This compounds also acts as a moderate mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation uncoupler without adverse effects on ATP production with little cytotoxicity.
In 2015, Suzuki et al. hypothesized that this new mitochondrial regulator could be a valuable tool for mitochondrial research and for obesity treatment. Ppc-1 is now commercially available via Funakoshi and is available in Europe via tebu-bio.
Ppc-1 (cat. nr 194FDV-0011) is a newly isolated molecule from Polysphondylium pseudo-candidum displaying a mild uncoupling activity in Mitochodria and the following effects:
- Low effect on ATP synthesis or degradation
- Low active oxygen generation
- Low cytotoxicity
- Cell proliferation is inhibited by adding Ppc-1 to culture medium.
For in vitro research programs focusing on mitochondrial research, Ppc-1 MitoUncoupler (cat. nr 194FDV-0011) increases mitochondria’s oxygen consumption without inhibiting ATP synthesis.
